She rallied in October, after a trip with Jagger, posting a rare picture of them snuggling, on a balcony in India. Jagger had never gone in for door-slamming dramatics; he'd drift into relationships, then drift away. And both of them were always getting on separate planes. The couple then spent a long Christmas in Mustique with his kids.

A friend arrived in London to escort Scott to Mustique for a few days' respite, where she languished before heading to New York for a psychiatrist appointment scheduled for the day she died. On the eve of her leaving Mustique, the Daily Mail reported Scott hadn't been invited to Jerry Hall's shower the coming Sunday for Jade and Jade's daughter Assisi, pregnant at the same time.
And that Jagger's children had nicknamed Scott "the black spider. On Scott's last day on this earth, she dressed pretty casually, in head-to-toe black right down to her Nike trainers with the yellow swoosh. Like she was going somewhere. A quick gloss is that L'Wren Scott fell off some impossibly tall ladder to self-acceptance.
The longer version is that she was caught in a perfect storm of perimenopause, lack of children, infidelities, abandonment issues, the fickle factory owners of Italy. Unremitting frustration over who owned what. Her birthday. Or perhaps the plan all along had been for a little girl to be rescued. That's what Jagger called Scott: "My little girl. Mere hours before, Scott was hosting a dinner at home with friends. Perhaps she was like Sylvia Plath, who had a nanny scheduled to interrupt, only the plan went awry so one theory goes.
Scott never mentioned the incident of 7 February to friends. She had wanted a family. Again, it's how she was raised. But even her family was on loan from Mick Jagger. In February, , Scott had refinanced the mortgage on the New York condo where she died with another non-bank loan, its high rate also reflecting a poor-credit score. This one was payable in two years. She didn't have to wait that long. The will left Michael Philip Jagger everything its witnesses, the cook from Mustique and another Jagger retainer.
Two months later, Scott's mortgage was satisfied. Did somebody come to the rescue? Perhaps that somebody required assurances. With her death came the news that she was deeply in debt. Word is the business is being wound down. There was regard for L'Wren Scott.
