Imessage where is ichat

More and more people are receiving iMessage messages on their computer as well as their phone, ever since Apple rolled out the ability to send and receive text messages on your Mac back in , with the release of OS X Yosemite. Of course, in order to search the messages, you have to have saved them; you do this from the Messages program preferences. The first thing you will probably notice is that you have a lot of messages archived, going back to when you first started using iChat or Messages or, at least, when you first set the preferences to have your messages saved.

Curiously, Macs still saves the messages as. So now you know where they are. At this point you can do a search for a text string within your message archives if you have Spotlight indexing your messages. If you do not already have Spotlight indexing your messages, you may want to turn that on or, you may not.. Now, if all of this is too complicated, too time consuming, or just too darned annoying, read about this second method!

Chatology loads all of your archived messages into its own interface, with the name of each person on the left, and all of the messages between you and that person, sorted by date, on the right. You can scroll through them if you like, but by far the most powerful feature of this program is that you can search your messages easily.

All of your messages! And this applies to you and any conversation partner. This is, of course, the most secure way, since the only possible method by which those exchanges could be obtained would be to get physical control of one of the devices and log into it — a rather significant hurdle.

Messages that live on a server are, of course, a nice honeypot for anyone able to remotely hack into a server. If I'm missing the plist from prefs, should i put none in ratther than the current time stamped one? None is better than the current one. Somewhat strange that there is no iChat or Messages. I have the old messages minus the few I did this morning which is great. It changes the main interface window a chat window with bits that access the Contacts List to use with the iMessages account and the Buddy list info without displaying the Buddy Lists.

The Sync as such is only "Display on all Devices" and anything you do to an iMessages on one device is not copied across to other devices. Messages can display the Buddy Lists and also separate them The default is to merge them so that you can use the app like iChat. Messages is an App that adds the iMessages account to what was the iChat application which effectively means it can join five services.
